Getting Started
Getting someone into your game takes four steps, and they alternate between the two of you: the host shares a code, the player joins with it, the host assigns them a character, and the player opens it.
Each step below is one of those handovers.
Quick Notes
Host: share the invite code

Open Game Settings. If the game has no code yet, Create Invite Code makes one; if it already has one, the refresh action replaces it with a fresh code.
The code can be hidden while you are on a call or streaming, and copied when you are ready to send it.
Player: join with the code

From the Joined dashboard, Join Game asks for two things in this order: a Username for this game, then the Invite Code.
The username is how the host and table see you. It is not your character's name, and it is specific to this game.
Player: the room starts empty

After joining you are in the game, but the room stays empty until the host assigns you a character. Nothing has gone wrong at this point. The next move is theirs.
You can change your game username from here with Change Username if you picked something you would rather not keep.
Host: get the character into the game

The character has to exist in the game's Characters table before it can be assigned. Create it there, or upload a character file the player has sent you.
Then add that character to the Players page, which is the list of who is actually at the table.
Host: assign the player to their character

On the player's card, Assign User links the joined account to that character. Unassign User undoes it if you assign the wrong one.
Until this step, the character exists but belongs to nobody.
Player: open your character

The assigned character now appears in the game room. Opening the card gives you the full character sheet with edit control over it.
Bringing an existing character in

A player who already has a character elsewhere can download it from its Bio page and send the file to the host.
The host uploads that file into the game's Characters table and assigns it exactly as above, so the last two steps are unchanged.
