Combats Table

Combats are the encounter board: everyone who is fighting, in initiative order, with their health, status effects and actions in one place.

A combat is prepared ahead of time and then started, so setup never happens under pressure at the table.

Quick Notes

  • Start and End are their own buttons, deliberately not buried in a menu.
  • The vocabulary is down, not dead: combatants are marked down and revived.
  • Cloning into a combat tags every copy so you can clear them out afterward.

The combats overview

The combats overview

The overview lists every encounter you have prepared. A card shows whether it is Active or Ready, so you can see at a glance which one is running.

New creates a combat, and each card's menu holds Open Combat, Favorite, Edit and Delete.

Add the party

Add the party

Add All Players brings in every character currently assigned on the Players page in one action, and it is the usual way a fight starts.

Add characters and NPCs

Add characters and NPCs

Add Characters picks from the Characters table, with search and tag filtering so a large roster stays manageable.

Clone a combatant

Clone a combatant

Clone & Import spawns copies of one character, and takes a Quantity. This is how six identical goblins reach the board without six characters existing.

Every copy is automatically tagged clone_<combatId>, creating that tag the first time it is needed and reusing it after. Filtering the Characters table by that tag afterward is the quickest way to find an encounter's clones and clear them out.

Players and non-players

Players and non-players

The board keeps players and non-players in two sections, each with its own select-all checkbox and a collapse toggle.

They share one toolbar rather than having separate controls. There is no filter for which side you are looking at, because the sections already are that.

Roll initiative

Roll initiative

Roll Initiative on the command panel rolls for everybody at once. Individual combatants can also be rolled from their own card.

Initiatives opens the list for typing values in by hand when someone rolled at the table.

Start the fight

Start the fight

Start begins the encounter. Before it, the board sits in a pre-round state where you can still arrange things.

End finishes it, and confirms first, because it ends the combat for everyone.

Step through turns and rounds

Step through turns and rounds

Next turn and Previous turn move through the initiative order; Next round and Previous round move between rounds.

Set the round jumps straight to a number when you need to correct the count.

Status effects and duration

Status effects and duration

Status effects applied with a duration count down as rounds advance, so conditions expire on their own rather than being remembered by you.

Expand all status effects and Collapse all status effects switch between seeing every condition on the board and keeping it compact.

Damage and heal a combatant

Damage and heal a combatant

Damage and Heal are their own buttons on each card rather than menu items, because they are what you reach for most.

The combatant card menu

The combatant card menu

The rest of a card's actions sit in its menu. It opens with Roll Check and Roll Save for that combatant's main stat, then Edit, Open Sheet and Summary. Mark as Down is one entry that reads Revive once they are down, so the card always offers the move you actually need. Below that sit Roll Initiative for that one combatant and Remove from Combat, which confirms first.

Each ability hexagon has its own menu too, for rolling a check or a save without leaving the board.

Find someone on a busy board

Find someone on a busy board

Search combatants... filters by name. The filter popover hides or isolates Downed combatants, and the sort popover orders the board by initiative, name or health with a direction.

Clear search, filters and sort resets all three together.

Act on several combatants at once

Act on several combatants at once

Selecting combatants brings up Damage / Heal, Status, Temp HP, Down and Revive.

Roll for a selection

Roll for a selection

The roll menu covers everyone you picked at once: Saving Throws & Skills, Custom Dice and Roll Initiative.

A dragon breathing on half the party is one roll here rather than six.

Reset and clean up

Reset and clean up

More combat options holds the maintenance actions, grouped so the destructive ones sit apart:

  • Reset Rounds, unavailable until combat has started.
  • Clear Initiatives, keeping the combatants.
  • Clear Combat, which empties the board entirely.
